I start with the operation, not the software.

Most software problems I work on don't begin with a technical specification.

09 — About

Business understanding came before software.

My route into technology wasn't a conventional computer-science path.

I spent years working across sales, business development, marketing, conversion optimisation and digital education before founding AptShift Systems.

Those roles taught me to look at technology from the perspective of the organisation using it: what needs to happen, who needs to do it, what information they need, where the process breaks down and what outcome the business is trying to achieve.

At Alison, I worked from raw educational material — sometimes text, sometimes hours of video — and transformed it into complete digital courses. That involved analysing source material, determining course structure, editing content, designing modules and assessments, preparing metadata and publishing the finished course through a learning management system.

That experience reinforced something that now defines how I approach software.
